Meanwhile, it is reported that Mr. Biden’s side highly appreciated the results of the phone call between him and General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong of the Communist Party of Vietnam on March 29.
The Vietnam News Agency also reported that on May 21, PM Chinh had a brief meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
At the meeting, Chinh told President Zelensky that Vietnam’s consistent stance is to respect the UN Charter and international law, especially the principles of respecting the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the states, non-interference in internal affairs, non-use of force and threat of force, all disputes should be resolved by peaceful means. Vietnam hopes relevant parties will soon end the conflict, resume dialogue, and settle disputes by peaceful means.
Chinh also expressed his gratitude to the Government of Ukraine for supporting the Vietnamese community in Ukraine.
As for Russia’s attack on Ukraine since February 24, 2022, Vietnam has had six votes at the UN Council on resolutions related to this armed conflict. In which, there were four times Vietnam abstained, once voted against and once voted for.
Specifically, on March 1, 3022, Vietnam abstained from voting on a resolution condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
