China installs spikes on the border with Vietnam

The nail trap on the border between China and Vietnam was installed by China

Video images that were circulated on Chinese social media on February 18 show that China is setting up a trap on the border with Vietnam in Yunnan province.

According to the website of Yunnan province, Maguan county officials are increasing border control measures to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic. This is a district with a border gate with Vietnam’s provinces of Lao Cai and Ha Giang.

According to the news website, the provincial authorities have mobilized the army, party members, and people to increase patrols 24 hours a day, strengthening the borderline to prevent illegal immigration during the COVID-19 epidemic.

With the policy of “No COVID,” China has recently increased border control with neighboring countries, including Vietnam. In particular, the giant country has recently built barbed wire fences and installed sensor cameras to scare away Vietnamese people from approaching the border between the two countries.

On November 6, 2021, YouTuber Nguyen Hoang Nam, who specializes in travel and exploration, posted on the channel Challenge Me a video about the border fence system built by China along the border in landmark No. 439 in Thuong Phung commune, Meo Vac district, Ha Giang province.

In mid-September 2021, a video appeared on the Internet showing Vietnamese people and Chinese border guards confronting each other at the fence at border marker No. 57 in Lai Chau province. The Vietnamese side accused China of connecting high-voltage electricity to the fence, endangering the lives of people living nearby.

About a month ago, there was also a video showing a group of Vietnamese border guards blocking the construction of a fence by the Chinese side with the pretext of trespassing on Vietnamese territory.
