Vietnam has just recorded one more death after being vaccinated against COVID-19. According to the Hanoi Department of Health, this is a young teacher named T.H.L, just 26 years old, residing in Dong Anh district, Hanoi.
The health authority said that Mr. L. went to the Nam Hong commune’s Health Station of Dong Anh district to get vaccinated against COVID-19 on the morning of June 20. Before vaccination, Mr. L. was screened and qualified for vaccination. After being injected with the COVID-19 vaccine produced by AstraZeneca, Mr. L. was monitored at the health station for 30 minutes before returning home.
On the evening of June 21, the Bac Hong Commune Health Station received a notice from his family that Mr. L. had a convulsion. After the emergency team came to the house for treatment, Mr. L.’s condition continued to deteriorate, “the whole body was pale, the carotid pulse was not detected, the blood pressure cannot be measured, the pupils were dilated from 5 to 6 mm… ” He was transferred to Dong Anh district General Hospital, the notice of the Hanoi Department of Health said.
However, the young teacher died at 9:15 pm on June 21, after about 39 hours of vaccination.
On the morning of June 22, the Hanoi Department of Health held a meeting of a Professional Advisory Council with leading experts from Bach Mai Hospital and the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology to assess this latest death.
According to the initial conclusion of the Expert Panel, the cause of death of this new case is not known at this time, as the forensic results “have not found evidence of death due to anaphylaxis or embolism,” still according to the announcement of the Hanoi Health Department.
The medical station where Mr. L was vaccinated was confirmed to be “qualified” according to regulations and the vaccine used to inject Mr. L. belongs to batch ABX1466, valid until August 31, 2021. The process of receiving, transporting and storing vaccines is also said to be in accordance with regulations. Except for Mr. L., all the remaining 100 vaccinated people with the same batch are in normal health.
The Hanoi Department of Health said that more microscopic tests and genetic sequencing are needed to make a conclusion about this post-injection death.
Previously, Vietnam had recorded a few deaths after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. Among them, there is a 35-year-old female health worker working at Tan Chau Regional General Hospital, An Giang province, who died from anaphylaxis after injection, and a 55-year-old man in Binh Thuan.
As of June 18, Vietnam has injected 1,991,059 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 and about 14-20% of those injected have a post-injection reaction, equivalent to the rate recommended by the manufacturer and the World Organization Health, according to Vietnam’s Ministry of Health.
